David grew up in Los Angeles and served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated in 1970 from California State University in Northridge with a degree in political science. In 1977, David graduated from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and became a Deputy County Counsel for Sacramento County.


Since 1977, over 40 years, David has aggressively and effectively represented thousands of injured and disabled people regarding California Workers’ Compensation, Longshore and Harborworker, Disability Retirement and Social Security Disability Claims. David has been Certified by the State Bar of California as a Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law since 1983. In addition, he was appointed as a Judge Pro Tem of the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board in 1985. 


In 1986, David became the managing partner of Finestone, Schumaker and Associates, the largest workers’ compensation law firm in Ventura County. That same year, David founded the Central Coast Chapter of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association and served as President for two years. David served as member of the Board of Governors of the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association from 1986 thru 1999. He has served as an adviser to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Workers’ Compensation Advisory Committee and has testified as an Expert Witness in the Superior Court of the County of Ventura in several civil and criminal trials.  David was a member of the Executive Board of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the State Bar of California from 1995 thru 1999.


In 2004 David was the Panel Moderator and Lecturer for the first program of the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association regarding use of the American Medical Association Guides for Evaluation of Permanent Impairment. More than 800 attorneys attended the program. David has also served as a lecturer for doctor members of the California Society of Industrial Medicine.


In 2017, David joined forces with attorney Edwin K. Stone to establish the Law Offices of Edwin K. Stone in Oxnard. David continues to provide experienced and effective legal representation for injured and disabled people, with a special emphasis in representing Deputy Sheriffs, Police, Firefighters and other Public Safety Officers.


When not helping injured people, David enjoys spending time with his wife, Karen, sons Matthew and Christopher, and other friends.
